Sepiary

Private family archive

The family archive that stays in the family.

Your people, your photographs, and the records that prove it — in one private tree, shared only with the relatives you invite.

Sepiary is not open for public signup yet. Existing members and invited relatives can sign in.

A tree in Sepiary: people, the couples that join them, and the record behind a date.

Everything a family history needs, in one place

Not a diagram tool with a photo folder bolted on — the people, the pictures and the evidence are the same record.

  • A tree you can actually read

Generations laid out so the shape of the family is obvious — marriages, second marriages, branches that rejoin. Search anyone and the tree moves to them.

  • Photographs and documents

Attach scans and photographs to the people and families they belong to, so a picture is stored with who is in it rather than in a folder called "scans final v2".

  • Evidence, not guesswork

Cite the record behind a date. Sepiary shows you which facts are sourced and which are still family recollection, so the tree can be trusted by whoever inherits it.

  • Places on a map

Births, marriages and homes resolve to real places, so you can see where a family lived and how far each generation moved.

  • Relatives, with roles

Invite family by email and choose what each of them can do — look, contribute photographs, or help administer the tree. Define your own roles if the defaults do not fit.

  • Share links you control

Send a scoped link to someone without an account — the photographs only, say. Links expire, and revoking one takes effect immediately.

A family archive is not something to put on someone else's advertising platform

Sepiary holds names, dates and photographs of people who never signed up for anything — including the living. That shapes how it is built.

  • Private by default

There is no public profile, no directory of trees, and no way for another Sepiary customer to find your family. Nothing you add is published anywhere.

  • One tree, one sealed account

Every tree is its own isolated account. The separation is enforced on every request by the server, not by hiding buttons in the interface.

  • Your files are not public URLs

Photographs and documents are checked for authorisation on every single request. There is no public bucket, so a copied image link opens nothing for anyone who was not invited.

  • You are the customer, not the product

Sepiary is paid for by subscription. Your family's records are not sold, not shared with advertisers, and not used to train anything.

One subscription per family tree

Questions people ask first

Who can see my tree?

Only the people you invite. Every tree is a separate, isolated account — nobody else browsing Sepiary can find it, and there is no public directory of trees or people. Photographs and documents are served through an authorisation check on every request rather than from a public bucket, so an image URL on its own opens nothing.

What can the relatives I invite do?

Whatever you decide. Each invitation carries a role, and you can define your own roles: someone who can only look, someone who can add photographs but not edit people, an administrator who can invite others. Roles can be changed or revoked at any time, and an invitation is bound to the email address you sent it to, so forwarding the link does not admit anyone else.

Can I show the tree to someone without an account?

Yes — you can create a share link scoped to what you want them to see, for example the photographs and nothing else. Share links expire, and you can revoke one at any time with immediate effect.

What makes this different from a diagram tool?

Evidence. A date of birth in Sepiary can carry the record it came from, and you can see at a glance which facts are sourced and which are still somebody's recollection. That is the difference between a family tree you can hand on and one that has to be researched again from scratch.

Do you sell my data or train models on it?

No. Your family's records are not sold, not shared with advertisers, and not used to train anything. The subscription is what pays for the product, which is deliberate — it is the only business model that does not put your family's history up for sale.

What happens when the trial ends?

The trial runs 14 days with no card and up to 2 GB of uploads. If you subscribe, everything you added carries over untouched. If you do not, we warn you before anything is removed and offer you a copy of what you uploaded first.

Can I cancel?

Yes, at any time, from your own account — monthly or annual. Cancelling stops the next renewal; nothing is hidden behind an email to support.

Start with one person you remember.

Add a name, a date, a photograph. The tree grows from there — and the relatives you invite can help fill it in.
